Intuitive Writing – A New Door Opens

Do you have doubts about your writing?

I know about doubt, too.

Who am I to teach writing?

I don't have a university degree.

My books are self-published.

Grammar isn't my strength.

I can't say much about style or quality.

I'm only an emerging writer.

These are the things I told myself when someone suggested I teach a writing workshop, following the sudden end to my dance career.

But a doorway opened in my mind. So the next time I sat in front of my computer for another online course, I watched the presenter and thought to myself, I can do this. I thought to myself, I might not be able to teach the craft of writing, but I can get writers writing. I know how to open creative pathways, and plumb the depths of the archetypal world within us. I can do this because of my training in intuitive development.

Back when I was writing my first courses in tarot and intuitive development, I realised I was teaching people how to look at symbols and write or speak about them. Just like interpreting a poem or story motif.

So following the withdrawal of my energy from teaching dance, I found that writing a writing workshop wasn't so hard. The content is already familiar to me. It's the participants that are changing; from mystical, to writerly. I wonder how my techniques will transpose into a more left-brained receiver? We will see.

Soon I'll begin work on my fourth book, a work of speculative fiction. The processes we will be exploring at my Intuitive Writing Workshop, are the same processes I've used myself to create a multidimensional cast of characters; forty-thousand words long. I'm itching to take up the project again, as it represents an escape from the personal that I haven't yet explored much in my writing. Simply, I'm excited to be playing with making stuff up – if indeed I'm making stuff up, and not harvesting some long buried memory fragment of another time, another life. Such brain play will be a refreshing adventure following the harrowing ordeal of rendering the reality of memoir to the page.

I hope to encourage new writers to begin their creative journey. For many years, I encouraged new dancers to step onto stage – skin quivering with nerves – in belly dance costume. Encouraging new writers is no more intimidating than that – maybe less so!

But you don't have to be a new writer. The Intuitive Writing Workshop is different to other creative writing workshops because it is sourced not from my writing education, but from my education as a mystic. When I started giving tarot readings and writing course content, I had no idea that the work would form part of my writing career. I didn't recognise my work as content writing. I thought I was letting myself get distracted from my calling to write. All that time I wondered, where is the path? And I was already walking it.

So who am I to teach? Well, I've been a teacher in other areas for decades. Enough said.

I think I've done enough writing courses to consider myself a little educated.

Self-publishing isn't easy. Anyone who has achieved that has something to offer new writers.

We pay editors to correct our grammar. I'm an artist, not a scholar.

First drafts have no need for style or quality.

Although I'm an emerging writer, the field has space for multiple blooms. Bloom with me!

So following the dictum of 'write what you know,' I've created the Intuitive Writing Workshop from the trusted bones of the old and tried. Hopefully these mystical tools can help new writers connect to a limitless source of words and inspiration.

You can find all of the information on the courses page of this site.

Happy writing.
