Endings and Beginnings With Numerology
Numbers are predicable, sequential, repeatable, spiritual. They show us where we are is this great cosmic cycle of creative life. If you're familiar with numerology, you can predict major life changes and opportunities for growth. I count on the information it provides to help me to accept the things I cannot change and to grant me the courage to change what I can – at the right time.
If you know about numerology, you'll know that 2025 has been a 9 year (Y9); that is, 2+0+2+5=9.
Some people (me) have experienced a personal Y9 as well, making it a double Y9. If your birth number is also a 9, you'll have experienced a triple Y9, and I feel for you! Don't worry, it's nearly over.
My birthday is tomorrow, 25/12/2025. To figure out my personal year number, I add 2+5+1+2+2+0+2+5=19, which is then reduced to a single digit by adding 1+9=10. The final digit, after adding 1+0=1. This means I am pleased to be moving into my Y1, as of tomorrow.
Things come to an end in Y9, ready for the new cycle to begin in Y1. New projects begun in a Y9 might not come to fruition, but the following Y1 should be more conducive to new beginnings.
In my Y9, I was hoping to finish my memoir. But these things run on their own schedule, and there have been many distractions as I learn to hold all that I have created during the past cycle in sustainable balance. During this past numerological cycle I have emerged as an author, which was my goal, so I'm feeling fulfilled. During the next numerological cycle I hope to establish myself as an author with a published memoir, as well as two anthology projects with my writing class at Coonara Community house, and Lilydale Lakeside Writers Group. I look forward to harvesting the energy of the Y1, hoping it will help me to give birth to three newly finished books by year's end; If not finished, then a good deal of the way through. I'm ready to leave the old cycle behind me and harvest the energy of the new. I can feel my optimism returning already, after a difficult Y9.
For me, the Y9 energy has played out in my relationships. Some have ended, some have changed. I have grieved the endings, and stepped carefully through the changes as old friends move into their own new cycles of life. I don't do relationship endings well. I have grieved the loss of a friend who stepped into my life when I was still raging with active PTSD. She too was suffering with her own trauma, and we supported each other through significant life changes and had heaps of fun. I had thought she was a 'lifetime' kind of friend. But it turned out that she was a 'seasonal' friend. She moved house, which often changes everything. But my triggers were pulled, and I remained insecure, socially hypervigilant – even paranoid – worried that my other friends would also disappear.
As with so much of my life, it has been my understanding of numerology that has got me through the year. Understanding how numerology affects our lives has helped me to make meaning from these disappearances, and to mostly avoid taking anything personally.
My closest friend, whom I hope fits into the 'lifer' category of friendship, became a grandmother this year. So her time and energy for our long daily phone calls has reduced to make space for her gorgeous new grandson. This, I understand. And because of the Y9, I was ready. Now we speak once or twice a week, and I'm using the extra time to catch up on my reading. I've read a lot of books this year, the gain that comes from sacrifice. Silver linings.
It was also a year when two of my house gadgets came to their natural ending. I had to replace my split system air conditioner, as well as my dishwasher. So financial stress was high this year too, as so much of what I earned from my new writing job was quickly funnelled into these not-much-fun-to-buy objects. But it all made sense in light of the 9 energy all around me. In a Y9, things come to an end.
Collectively, there's too much going on in the world to speak to it too much in this blog post; but my hope for the new beginning of our collective Y1 is starting to rise. I look forward to finding out what new beginnings are in store for our planet in the coming year, and hoping that some things can come to an end.
But now, as Christmas Eve rolls on, I'm preparing for the new Y1 energy to enter my life. I'm typing this new post on a new laptop, which I bought to help me with a new anthology project I'll be working on with my writing students in 2026. If you're interested in having your writing appear in an anthology, there's some space in the class for you. Check out my courses page for more information.
Finally, I'm just relieved that Y9 is over for me tomorrow; and for everyone else, it will come to an end on New Year's Eve. I'm hoping for a new world that is more peaceful, more compassionate, and more equal; and for me personally, more creative.
I've created a short summary of what to expect during each numerological year.
To figure out your personal year number, add your birthday day and month, with the current (new) year. D+D+M+M+2+0+2+6=X. Remember to keep adding the numbers together to reduce to a single digit.
Example: 5/2/2026 5+2+2+0+2+6=17. 1+7=8 Your personal year is Y8.
What To Expect During Each Numerological Year:
9 Year Nine
Change is set into motion, which will slowly become apparent towards the end of the year, or even the following year. Such changes are viewed more clearly with hindsight. It's a good year to consolidate old debts and count new blessings. If old friendships dissolve, look around you at the new friendships that have potential to enrich your life even more. You might feel compelled to transcend the personal and pay more attention to world affairs. In my experience of a Y9, budget well, in case your gadgets or car decide to reach their natural ending. Whatever you have set into motion in the previous cycle has grown ripe, and areas of decay begin to show. As the old cycle ends, a new life cycle is beginning.
1 Year One
New ideas erupt, perhaps from the wreckage of what came to an end in the previous cycle. Energy rises again, boosting confidence and enabling the easy release of past limitations. A Y1 feels all fresh-faced with new vigour and optimism. If you felt like saying 'no' to things in Y9, review your decisions in Y1 and notice how saying no, can reveal the path to saying yes. Sometimes it's just a matter of timing. Y1 gives you all of the confidence you need to make the big decisions that seemed to much to think about the previous year. Y1 is a good year to focus on your own individual needs and desires, a year to make yourself Number One. It's also a year to stabilise yourself in your new life cycle, before things grow more complex.
2 Year Two
Connections are made and life becomes more complex, whether in business or pleasure. This alchemical combining of people, places and things, creates a new recipe that will flavour the rest of your growth cycle. New things challenge the stability you built in the previous Y1, and you may find yourself going through many adaptations and perhaps compromises. Sometimes we connect with individual people, and sometimes we turn our attention to a more collective awareness and attunement to cosmic or earthly energies – a unity. The Y2 will likely be more quiet that the adventurous Y1, but time in reflective meditation can help you to attune to the spiritual opportunities inherent in the Y2. There will opportunities to rebalance and regulate yourself, as you connect with the energies around you. Think of the two energy as being a polarity or see-saw. Your challenge is to ride the energies of the year without losing your balance or jumping to extremes.
3 Year Three
Your mind grows more hungry for expansion and experience this year. You might feel compelled to read about a new topic, or even go back to school or workplace training. It's a good year for movement and travel, as you expand your field to include new things. Three is a creative number, so whatever you wish to craft, build or invent should get a boost of energy towards manifestation. If you find yourself struggling with negative thinking or limitation this year, you might need to add something new to your recipe of life; something to expand your mind and invoke your curiosity. There will lots of mental energy around you. Use it for positive reinforcement or negative rumination – the choice is yours.
4 Year Four
Following the activity of the previous year, this year you might feel the need to stop, consolidate, rebalance and take stock. Think of the four legs of a chair, and how the weight is distributed evenly among all four legs. Think of your life as the chair, perhaps as four categories, such as: health, wealth, people and purpose. What actions can you take this year to help your chair stay balanced on all four legs? Is there anything you need to prune away from your life to stop the whole thing from tipping over? Y4 is known as a trough year, so no sudden movements or high expectations. Your task is to be still and keep the life you've created during the first four years of the cycle steady, while maintaining integrity. It's an especially good year to carefully watch your health, in preparation for the increasing build-up of your numerological cycle towards its climax in the Y9. Ready, steady...
5 Year Five
...Go! The halfway point in your current life cycle, Y5 often invokes the need for freedom, change, travel and movement. Ideas that have been brewing since your Y1 might erupt, bringing all sorts of new challenges as you integrate the old with the new. Everything is up in the air in a Y5, as you juggle the confidence to start new things with the need to maintain old structures. You might feel compelled to develop a new skill of an artistic or creative nature, either personally or professionally. This new development might be inspired by a need to break out and break free of previous limitations, and a general feeling of restlessness as your soul seeks to expand itself.
6 Year Six
Energy is rising, and you'll experience a mini-peak this year. Creative projects will benefit and possibly bear fruit. It's a great year for getting things done at home, whether personally or for your home itself. It's a good year to bask in the early rewards of this numerological cycle; enjoying the present, moment-by-moment, with your presence – the gift of this year. As with everything, enjoy it while it lasts. If this year is inharmonious, look back at your Y5 and notice if there are any decisions that you delayed making. Otherwise, your Y6 can be one of peace, harmony and creativity.
7 Year Seven
This year, like Y4, is a year of consolidation and reflection. Although it's not a good year for major changes, you can benefit from looking back over the previous seven years of development and decide which adjustments are required to continue the momentum. It's a year for learning from past experience, or adding any skills to your repertoire than could enhance your progress. Sometimes losses can occur, which require you to review where you may have gone off track. You might need to relinquish something in order to create space for new growth, like trimming a plant. This sacrifice of something leads to something greater, preparing you for your peak.
8 Eight
You are peaking! You might feel your life speeding up this year, as you rise to the peak of your numerological cycle. New opportunities present themselves this year, and the rewards for your efforts are revealed. If money is going to appear, you should see it this year. For many people, there will be an increase in independence, as well as emotional control – hence control of your own personal creative power. Your actions may become more purposeful, as everything from the previous cycle starts clicking into place. Whatever you have sown, you will reap. Do you like the life you've created? If yes, now is the time to plan how you're going to keep the momentum going. If you're not happy with your life, your discontent may peak this year, compelling you to rewrite your life going forward. You are the artist of your life, continually creating anew along this predictable pathway of numerology.
Note: To calculate your birth number, use your year of birth instead of the current year, using the formula D+D+M+M+Y+Y+Y+Y=Birth number (reduced to a single digit).
I'll write about birth numbers in a future post.
